BREVARD COUNTY

Posted by Greg Pohl at February 26. 2007
Is there any hope of any communities like the ones seen in this forum, or like the affordable modern homes I've seen developed in other parts of the country, ever being erected in Central Florida (east coast)? I am on the verge of purchasing an older home and investing a fortune in updating. I would love to avoid this, if anyone has any suggestions. Thank you. Also, are there any groups that meet in this area?

There was a group up in Jacksonville that was fairly active for a while. You might contact some of those members and see what they know.

I can't say that I know of any such community planned for central Florida. I've tried talking to some builders and developers about a modern community that is affordable but none of them wants to be a pioneer. They can make money just pumping out the same old junk. You are welcome to come join us at one of our monthly meetings ( next one April 17 in Winter Park). Go to our web site http://www.centralfloridamodern.com and subscribe to our email list (under About Us) and you will receive invites.

Hi Greg,

we are in Brevard and designing our modern house. We are drawing up the plans ourselves. There are a lot of mid-century modern older homes in our neighborhood.

Like you we have thought of buying an older one, but every time we think of the cost of updating the old things we think "but we could have poured a lot of concrete for a new one with that money".

Unfortunately you are trying to revive a year old post! But nevermind that - post some photos of your house.
