New Orleans homes?

Posted by Andrew Brott at July 11. 2006

I live in New Orleans, and would like to build a reasonably priced Modernist home. $150 / sq-ft is reasonable, but with our labor shortages and increased material costs $200++++/ sq-ft is the norm. To all you pre-fab/kit/easy to build fans understand: AFFORDABLE QUALITY SUBS DO NOT EXIST IN NEW ORLEANS!!! You spend top $ just to get in line... Would love to hire Byron Mouton's firm ( http://www.bildit.com/ ), but scared I will be stuck with the same labor traumas, and $ / sq-ft=?
If form follows function, why are their no affordable Modernist Modular builders? I have searched the net, Dwell mag, and beyond only to find chic, overpriced tres-modern builders. We need homes, not concepts.
These builders ( http://www.hometimellc.com/default.html) offer homes at $90/ sq-ft. Lets just say; our aesthetics don't match.
Where else can I look?

Side note: over the next 3 years 10+ billion (yes with a B) will be spent re-building here. The largest building project in U.S. history. Please design and build us Modernist Modular homes!!! We would love to use pre-fab; but sure your kit comes the plumber to install my kitchen sink...
These homes will need to be raised 3'+ off the ground; and our average lot size is 30' wide (with a 3' set back on either side) and 90' to 150' long. We need Modernist Shot Gun homes.
Warmest Regards,
Andrew Brott
