Longhouse - a modern take in Maine

Posted by Eric Reinholdt at August 21. 2007

I've started a blog to chronicle progress on a small house currently under construction that I designed on Mount Desert Island (MDI) on the coast of Maine for our family. The original post describing the design idea is here: http://reinholdtsfort.blogspot.com/2007/05/longhouse.html

Regularly updated blog frontpage is here: http://www.reinholdtsfort.blogspot.com/

I'm an architect practicing in Blue Hill, Maine designing custom residences (see, http://www.eena.com/ ).  My wife & set out to purchase a house to renovate on MDI and found nothing in our price range that was even remotely passable for living.  So, we purchased a small bit of land and designed a modest 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1600 s.f. home for our family of four.  While the form is a simple extruded gable the plan makes use of modern ideas about space planning and massing, as do the material selections.  I hope it passes for modern enough for this forum.
