Seeking prefab trailers for public/private partnership in DC
Hello all:
I've been a LiveModern member for a few years now but haven't contributed much lately, as I've been busy with grad school and expanding my residential investment and property management business (shameless plug: http:5wide.com). I've been working with the Lower Georgia Avenue Community Development Task Force in Washington DC on a project that may be of interest to some of you. The Bruce Monroe Elementary School at 3012 Georgia Avenue was recently demolished. Although the original plans called for the construction of a new mixed-use development incorporating residential units, retail space, and a new school, the financing markets and economy have shelved that for the near term. The city under the auspices of the Deputy Mayor for Economic Development has been rolling around ideas for a temporary (5 years or so) use for the site. Currently, their plan incorporates a couple of basketball courts, a tennis court, green space, and a few trailers to house youth activities.
I think this would be an excellent opportunity for a prefab builder to showcase their product and help build brand awareness in a high-visibility area by working with the city to provide a prefabricated structure that could be used for educational activities. The greener the better, as there may be some funds available from the District Department of the Environment and other sources to help allay the cost. If you're interested, or know of any resources, companies, or subject matters who might benefit from this endeavor, please call or email me ASAP. Thanks
