Transformation to Modern in Victoria BC

Just starting out. We're interviewing architects and getting educated (glad I found this site). The plan is to redo the exterior including flattening the roof and adding 2-storey addition totalling 800 sq ft to the rear. Here's the "before" picture:

I'm inclined to keep the front entrance arch and concrete steps and "rails". I hate the knobby stucco and am thinking a combination of materials including stucco, wood and corrugated. I am heartened by the great results in this thread:
