We are in the planning stages for our one-story, flat roof, totally (even the roof) concrete modern home. 2600 sq ft under air 3 car garage. It will have 10 foot soaring overhangs in the back.

What color scheme would you use by the beach? My neighbors are mostly key west style pastels.

I'm going to reply to myself here. I have been studying California modern exteriors and the colors seem too grey and brown to me. Grey with a sexy burgundy stripe, for example.

I will probably go for Caribbean Coral with white accents for the exterior. So I am combining the traditional "darker" colors of California modern with the pastels of the Key West style and voila I get, basically, deeper shades of pastels.

I think of light grays and whites as beach/caribbean colors- the little white stucco houses of Greece and Spain also. Our house is built of AAC (concrete) with stucco. We debated colors forever. We finally ended up going with Sherwin Williams "Pediment" which is a very neutral light gray. Sometimes I wish we had gone with a whiter color. When you get to the drawing stage I would love to see how you detail the concrete wall and concrete roof. Concrete roofs are done all the time in some areas. In our area it is not common but it is something I wish we had done! Are you using block? panels? poured concrete?

Thanks for your website, looks like a fabulous project, your front door is gorgeous. Is the color around the front door the final color? It is serene.

We have our preliminary drawings done and my husband, Thomas, and teens have gone to watch a concrete roof being poured nearby, very exciting.

Thomas has been analyzing our preliminary drawings all week to ascertain how to pour it. He is an aerospace engineer and I know that is how he works. He spends a month thinking about a problem and then comes up with a novel solution.  He wants as few cold joints as possible and as simple a pour as possible, so I'll let him cogitate a while!

We're going with a warm-but-not-quite-bright rusty orange and contrasting nearly-navy-blue for our build.  Trims will be dark chocolate brown including the aluminum doors and deck framing.  We need to wait another month or so before we can go to exterior paint (we're on the Washington Coast and it's been a wet spring).  You can check out our build on the build blog here or at the source:  threetreejournal.blogspot.com
