Modern venue

Posted by Justin Dill at February 08. 2006

Well first off I must say that I love this forum. I just started back to school and am planning on getting a degree in architecture from UT. There is so much knowledge floating around on this forum its great! Anyway I am getting married in Oct. of 20007 and my fiance and I are currently looking for venues. I have been hoping to find something with clean lines and modern sensibilities. But my searches have been to no avail. The majority of venues out there are texas pride style or resemble a monsterous psuedo-villa McMansion. We found the Trois Estate it's beautiful but to dark for a night reception and a little to castle like.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a wedding photographer so I've seen most of the venues around town - unfortunately there are not a lot of options as far as modern design is concerned. Most of the places are as you say psuedo-villas or lovely historical buildings, or something in between.

Have you thought about looking at a museum (I think Austin Children's Museum is available for weddings) or have you thought about perhaps renting a loft space? I think you can find loft space available for events somewhere downtown. Another option could be to rent out a club type place like Oslo or Thistle Cafe or similar...

That's about all I can think of. Good luck!

The San Jose would be a LOVELY place, but I'm not sure what their rates are, and if so how many rooms you'd need to rent for guests to make it all worth it, but it is one of the nicest places in town.

If you haven't found a place yet, a few suggestions:

Design Center of Austin:

Austin Children's Museum:

Austim Museum of Art:

Fielding Lecht Gallery (previously

I'm sure there are a slew of restaurants and bars downtown or in the warehouse district that rent out space for private parties

Good luck!
