Seeking green FLR inspired architect

Posted by Lisa Goddard at March 17. 2008

Husband and & are looking to build our dream home soon.  I'm having some trouble finding an architect that is Frank Llloyd Wright inspired - specifically his southwest work, or even modified prairie.  The only firm I found that is remotely close is Hunter Wheeler.

Also,  we'd like to live off the grid as much as possible - rain water system, solar panels, etc.  What's the deal with having a windmill on your property if you're in the city limits? I couldn't find anything. Thanks!

Lisa,

While I can't say that I am hugely inspired by FLW's work, I am very much inspired by the things that inspired him, specifically the environment and direct connection to it, materials and their natural "material-ness", and oriental understandings of interior space as flowing and connected rather than an accretion of rooms. The "modern southwest" aesthetic is very well suited to the Texas hill country if tempered for the specifics of our climate. I'd be interested in discussing with you the vision you have for your project. I specialize in modern sustainable design with a focus on a projects specifics of site, climate, and program. Feel free to drop me a note if interested in discussing further.

Thanks,

Mark Meyer
