What type of siding is on the house? How is that pattern of squares accomplished?

It is hard coat stucco. They use this small tool to make the pattern. I do not remember the technical term for this. I do know they charged me a pretty penny for it because it was so time consuming and they had to do it at a certian point during the stucco drying process.
