Materials: Ikea Hyllis shelf, self locking cable ties, wire mesh, wood and ply wood as its roof (otpional)

Description: I saw the Ikea Hyllis shelf in our very own kitchen and I thought to myself, "We're gonna build a rabbit hutch out of it!"

It turned out to be a great solution for a rabbit hutch. We turned the metal shelf upside down so that it can act as the manure tray that helps me a lot in cleaning works. Smart, eh?

It is very mobile as the overall size and weight of the hutch is just nice. Paint or varnishes may cause rabbits to become ill or die so we left it as is. The hutch is not too tall nor too deep for me to reach for the rabbits. The best part is not a single nail can be found on it.

We didn't want to injure our rabbits so we used self locking cable ties instead. As for the roof, it's a gift from my Hubby to our new babies, Simba and Teddy.

See more of the Hyllis rabbit hutch.

CAUTION: The above hack is deemed unsuitable for rabbits as rabbits are not designed to live on wire mesh floors. Do provide a resting board or rug for your rabbit to sit on should you have a wire floor cage. The size of the cage should also be at least 4X the size of the rabbit stretched out. Please see for more information. ~ Jules
