This sustainable home was designed by POLYGON, organized and developed by the Zagorodny Proekt company, in cooperation with the VELUX Group. It was claimed as the first active house in Russia. The design wants to integrate the energy saving, healthy indoor climate and care for the environment. This eco friendly construction is prospected to be a new standard for residential house construction in Russia.

The design of this eco construction combines the traditional and modern design. The interaction between the indoor and outdoor were really considered, supported by the geometry of the room and the light.

The pile foundation was laid as the basis for “Aktivny Dom”, considering the geological features of the location. Wooden materials were used as it is more eco friendly and may provide good insulation to support energy savings. The framework was made from softwood and constructed on-site, decreasing the time, energy, and waste. So, prefabrication is possible to be done. Insulation products are still provided.

A lot of openings used in this sustainable building, including ordinary windows, roof windows, provide natural day lighting and access to see the environment. The daylighting for each spaces were optimized by using the VELUX Daylight Visualizer 2, a software tool dedicated to daylighting design and analysis. By this, the placing of the openings can be simulated and optimized to achieve optimal daylighting, fresh air,  and views. The openings may also provide ways on capturing the sun heat to be stored by special heavy gympsum, applied for  in the interior walls.

By this sustainable project, it is hoped the CO2 footprint can be minimized, and sustainable lifestyle can be encouraged. This house uses almost 5 times less energy than specified in current building regulations, and 7-8 times less than an average house in Russia. So, energy can be optimized too.
