Frank Lloyd Wright had music in mind when he designed Unity Temple, and the concert series music is helping restore the building to its original beauty as proceeds support the Unity Temple Restoration Foundation. The six performances showcase musicians with Chicago roots, including the world-traveling duo Grazyna Auguscik & Paulinho Garcia, a Polish-American jazz singer from Chicago with a Brazilian-born guitarist and composer; aspiring professional artists from a local university; and the Ying String Quartet, an ensemble that has played in many of the world’s most important concert halls, from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House, while also enthralling audiences that range from juvenile prisons to the White House.

The Unity Temple Concert Series will offer musical performances in the room Wright called his jewel box beginning October 1, 2011, with the Dee Alexander Quartet. Dee Alexander is one of Chicago’s most gifted and respected female vocalists and songwriters. Her talents span every music genre, from Gospel to R&B, from Blues to Neo-Soul. November 5 showcases impassioned performances from prize piano students of Roosevelt University as they embark on their professional careers. Robbie Fulks, a gifted guitarist who has taught for years at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, will perform one part artful country, one part artful sendup of country and one part a little of everything else with his band January 28, 2012. Whether performing baroque masterpieces or contemporary works, the versatile musicians of the Metropolis Quintet continue to redefine chamber music for a new age and will delight with memorable melodies February 25, 2012. March 31, 2012 features the Ying String Quartet, which occupies a position of prominence in the classical music world—combining brilliant performances with a fearlessly imaginative view of chamber music in today’s world. The series concludes April 28, 2012 with Grazyna Auguscik & Paulinho Garcia who will play a perfect example of contemporary Brazilian jazz at its finest.

Subscriptions are now available for the entire six-performance series (seating prices range from $75 to $150), a saving of 25 percent off single ticket prices. A 3-pick packet is also available for $90 and allows subscribers to choose the three performances they most want to see. Single performance ticket sales begin September 10, 2011. Performance details, information about Frank Lloyd Wright’s Unity Temple and tickets are available at the Unity Temple Concert Series website.
