It used to be that the garden shed was a place to store gardening tools and lawn mowers. As our desire for space has grown, the humble shed has morphed into home office, art studio, or children's play space. We particularly like this South London summerhouse used as a guest bedroom, featuring a white-washed interior, minimal furnishings, and a parquet flooring with underfloor heating (a safe way to survive a British winter in the garden). N.B. For another example of shed-as-guest-house, go to House Call: Summerhouse in South London . Photographs via Light Locations . Above: The south-facing summerhouse maximizes light with a wall of windows and patio doors. Above: A rustic ladder provides clothes storage opportunities; strips of Shaker hooks create additional storage options. Above: A porthole adds a nautical touch. Above: Shaker pegs across the length of the wall can be used for displaying art. Above: A slice of tree trunk serves as lamp table. Above: A parquet floor conceals the underfloor heating.
