Lotta and Henry Imberg, the husband/wife team behind Imberg Arkitekter, turned a garage for tanks and military vehicles into a summer home overlooking the sea on Furillen, an island off the northeast coast of Gotland. With open sea breezes, ceiling fans need not apply Images via Imberg Arkitekter . Above: The large doors originally made for vehicles are perfect for channeling the sea breezes. Above: Simple partitions erected around the timber columns divide the space. Above: The length of the kitchen wall has been tiled over. Above: Copper tubing holds this light fixture in place. Above: The only color in the architecture speaks of sky and sea. Above: While the rough concrete floors and walls of the garage remain, the architects created a concrete wainscot by applying plywood panels above. Above: A summer picnic and a view of the ocean. Above: A rendering of the exterior, post-remodel. Above: The garage before the renovation. N.B. Always obsessed with anything Swedish, like us?
