‘Tis the season to deck the halls or in our case to decorate the rooms of a modern home. We’ve been exploring online to see what’s new in modern ornaments for the modern Christmas tree. Along the way on this little virtual window-shopping trip we also discovered some interesting new takes on vintage ornament designs and retro ideas, too.

From very affordable little baubles to a stunning Swarovski crystal star, there’s a wonderful array of ornaments available this year. One little problem has arisen however. We can’t decide which ones to add to our collection of modern ornaments. One can never have too many silver and white glass globe ornaments. Whether hanging on the tree, fashioned into a swag for the fireplace or filling apothecary jars, bowls or trays, these chic simple baubles are always in style.

We love these minimalist clear glass ornaments—each has a single feather inside.

Handmade paper ornaments from Frazier & Wing in brilliant hues are stunning in their seeming simplicity yet inherently complicated in design.

Yes, we know glass globes have been around for many Christmases past, but don’t these look fresh and modern as a hanging centerpiece?

Jonathan always surprises us with a little something new for the holidays each year. These tiny minimalist animals in white are joined by two silver pieces—a fancy fox and a lovely peacock.

For those of us who live modern design, what could be more perfect than glass globes done in Pantone colors with the Pantone name and color number printed in black on each one?

We’ve fallen for this frosted acorn ornament. Made of glass, it has an appealing white frosted finish. How pretty it is!

How cool is a 4” diameter clear glass ornament with a second silver sphere inside. West Elm calls it a double bubble—an ornament within an ornament.

We adore this Swarovski SCS Christmas Ornament, Annual Edition 2013. A perfect star in Crystal Golden Shadow with a tiny 2013-year tag, it hangs from a brown satin ribbon.
