Mark Hertzberg sent word today that the Save America’s Treasures program that helped provide funds for the restoration of Robie House, Unity Temple and Taliesin (and many, many other important projects) has been killed by Congress. As stated on the program's website: "Introduced by the Republican Study Committee, the act proposes $153 billion in federal spending cuts over five years through nearly 50 types of reductions. Among the programs noted for elimination are Save America’s Treasures, Preserve America, Heritage Areas, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities."

Seems like the first things to go are the programs that focus on culture and the arts. Personally, I'd like to see more of the wasteful corporate subsidies and a giant salary cut for all members of Congress before cutting programs like Save America's Treasures. But that's just me. Read more here.
