This sustainable House of Maple was designed by Edward Suzuki Architecture, built in a mountain resort of Karuizawa, Japan, about an hour of rapid train from Tokyo. A lot of sustainable features and green architecture ideas were applied in this house.

This eco construction is dominated by wooden materials, combined by steel materials for peripheral balconies. The passive design concept applied was inspired by Katsura Imperial Villa in Kyoto. Almost all of the sustainable features provided here are taken by natural way, except the radiant hot-water heating.

The green architecture concept can be achieved very well. The air circulation is supported by natural cross ventilation system provided by south facing windows. There are also underground cross ventilation system to protect against humidity. Insulation was considered very well. Natural lighting can be achieved too.Protection from harsh sun lighting is provided by the trees and some extended eaves.

This sustainable home building is a two story building. Some sustainable materials, such as bamboo, metal, wooden materials were used. Metal materials can provide easy maintenance and durability. Reflective silver roofing may reflect the sunlight to control the temperature of the house. Fluorescent and LED lights are also used.
