Mark Hertzberg sends a link to an article in the New York Times about the plight of Bertram Goldberg's Old Prentice Women's Hospital in Chicago and the efforts to stave-off its demolition by its owner, Northwestern University. The NYT's article spotlight's architect Jeanne Gang's proposal to save Prentice by building a giant new research tower on top of it, reducing the cloverleaf original structure to an odd footing. I love Jeanne Gang, but this design symbolically destroys the building. Let's hope a better solution is found. Read more here.
