Emily Fischer is the artist behind Haptic Lab , a Brooklyn studio producing limited-edition quilts—"soft maps," as she calls them. Fischer, a Brooklyn-based architect, started Haptic Lab after being laid off from her job in a local firm. She offers a range of hand-stitched quilts depicting city maps (Chicago, London, San Francisco, Paris are just a few of the current offerings); custom quilts are also available. Fischer describes her work as "an experiment in tactile wayfinding. Each quilt is a research project into the life of someone else. It's very, very personal."
