The New York TImes Review of Books recently covered the new work by French architectural historian and architect Jean-Louis Cohen titled Architecture in Uniform: Designing and Building for the Second World War. The book argues that it wasn't Utopian dreams or social causes that brought out the full potential of Modern architecture--but rather the technologies of destruction perfected during World War II.
