The latest in-house buzz at BUILD World Headquarters.
As we approach the halfway point of the year, the activity at BUILD World HQ has been operating at full speed. Several new projects have emerged, a number of design events have passed and are coming up, and we even have a new addition to the team for the summer. Take a spin through the past six months of what we’ve been up to and feel free to drop us a line in the comments section below.
The First Central Station project has gone through a whole host of community meetings and a master plan that has been finalized responding to the community requests. The porject is officially in for Early Design Guidance (EDG), the beginning of formal City of Seattle land use review process. For more on the project, check out our earlier blog posts about the context of the site and the benefits of rezoning.
One of our newest projects, Utopian Heights Modern, a single-family residence located in the Bryant neighborhood in northeast Seattle, is now in Design Development. A uniquely sited house, UHM offers generous territorial views as well as unobstructed views of Mount Rainier from the existing rooftop. A previous post delved into the metrics of our design analysis on this tidy, urban site.
The Norkirk Residence is the newest project here at BUILD. We’ve completed as-builts, and are well underway with programming and schematic design.
Home in the Woods continues to be one of our most unique projects, situated in a secluded, wooded site east of Seattle. The project is currently under permit review with King County.
Mercer Island Residence kicked off construction last month. Demolition of the existing (spooky) shack and excavation are complete, and the footings are now being formed. Keep tabs on the process on our Facebook page.
The Desai Residence on Seattle’s Queen Anne hill is complete, with finished photos currently in progress. For a refresher on the design, check our earlier blog post about the program, and stay tuned for more posts to come.
Our interview with Swedish modernist Håkan Widjedal of Arkitektstudio Widjedal Racki is on newsstands (and online) now. Grab the latest issue of ARCADE 33.1: Data Culture, and check out part 1 and part 2 online.

Back in April, we celebrated the completion of the Case Study House 2014 with the help of good weather, good food, and good company.
Last month saw the completion of the Desai Residence on Queen Anne’s south slope, and the unseasonably warm weather contributed to a beautiful evening taking full advantage of the indoor/outdoor living space.
As is our annual tradition, the Seattle-to-Vancouver charity ride is swiftly approaching. This year’s S2V jersey design takes a playful twist, inspired by The Rules: The Way of the Cycling Disciple by the Velominati.
We kicked off our first annual SIXWARD in Des Moines, Washington. A refreshing team break in the middle of the week to catch our breath, and look ahead towards the next phase of our ever-evolving practice.
