Last week's design revelation was Courtney Love's Federal brick townhouse on xoJane , which editor Jane Pratt refers to as "Courtney's creative laboratory." The black and blue palette; the unexpected mix of antiques (Art Deco pieces by E.J. Ruhlmann, Art Nouveau furniture by Louis Majorelle, and English pieces by Chippendale); the paintings by Francis Bacon, Damien Hirst, and Gretchen Ryan; and the Buddhist accoutrements all add up to a surprisingly calm and harmonious setting. To see more, go to xoJane . Photography by Peter Murdock . Above: The grand entryway leads from the living area to an upstairs bedroom; the entry doors are painted in a glossy black paint from Fine Paints of Europe. Above: A Frances Bacon triptych hangs above the mantel; the globe to the left of the fireplace belonged to Kurt Cobain. Above: A collection of bridal cake toppers. Above: A prayer room, with various books on Buddhism and tarot cards. Above: A collection of curios, including Chinese foot-binding shoes. Above: Photos of Love's daughter by Herb Ritts. Above: The living room is wallpapered in Farrow & Ball's Lotus ; the painting above the fireplace is by Gretchen Ryan, who is inspired by beauty pageant culture.
