Ian Ference provides some excellent counter thoughts in this blog entry to an essay that John Patrick Leary wrote called "Detroitism." Leary's essay reviews two photographic collections that chronicle the abandoned buildings of Detroit and then asks the question: "What does 'ruin porn' tell us about the motor city?" What is "ruin porn" you ask? Is it photographic sensationalism, documentation or exploitation? Read both essays: Leary's here and Ference's here and then decide for yourself.
