Janina Loeve‘s Tettonica, which consists of small, lightweight side furniture, seeks to create a distinguished connection between interior living space and exterior landscape. The purpose of the designs are to experience the space outside of the house while being inside. Different structures of landscapes are scaled to fit the interior. This series was inspired by plate tectonics: the large scale motions of Earth’s crust which shapes mountains and canyons. The side tables and stools are handmade and produced in the Netherlands, using layers of Okumé multiplex, a form of plywood. The depth created inside the table is visible though the glass tabletop, which amplifies the spacious feeling. The stool is hollow on both sides and is covered with a removable felt cushion.
