8 billion-dollar climate disasters have hit the US this year alone

Climate change is getting expensive. Coming off the hottest June on record, the United States so far in 2016 has experienced eight weather and climate-related disasters that have met or exceeded $1 billion, resulting in 30 deaths and damages totaling $13.1 billion. The analysis by NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) doesn't include the late-June flooding in West Virginia which is still being assessed and could add to the number of billion-dollar disaster events.
