Highly regarded for his “Folded” and “Knitted” series of lighting fixtures, Israeli designer Ariel Zuckerman graduated from the “Shenkar” institute of design. He brings to his designs a fresh style and innovative approach. In addition to lighting, the designer also specializes in furniture and consumer accessories.

Today, we will explore two of his lighting collections that would work brilliantly in modern interiors. We think his Cone hanging wall lamp developed as part of the “Folded” series would be an excellent choice for micro apartments and tiny houses.

Echoing the beauty of Origami, the "folded" series is made by coating wood veneer with an acrylic layer. It’s flexible, but very thin allowing light to filter out. The white shades are made of polypropylene.

The designer’s website tells us these folded fixtures deal “with the physical tension applied on a two dimensional sheet. Using techniques such as folding, stretching and twisting, borrowed from the discipline of paper, and applying them to wooden sheets, led to a novel three dimensional appearance.”

We think the folded table lamp is just right for a bedside table in a modern bedroom or as a desk lamp atop a stylish minimalist desk. With a unique appearance, the folded floor lamp would be perfect beside a living room chair or modern chaise lounge. Can’t you just see the “Triple W” or “Diamond 60” hanging as the a great focal point above modern or rustic dining table?

The captivating “Knitted” collection, is described by Ariel-Design.com as, “A series of light fixtures that combines technology with tradition; knitting wool threads in fixed patterns creates a three-dimensional sheet of fabric which serves as a lighting fixture collaboration between Oded Sapir and Ariel Zuckerman. The developing was done using the designer Adva Bruner.”

The “Knitted” pendants look beautiful in a cluster mixing these vibrant but somehow muted colors. These appealing lights would work well in any modern, eclectic or vintage space. Reminding one of fishermen’s nets, wouldn’t they be stunning in a modern beach house?

We think these lamps and hanging fixtures are both modern and cool. How about you?
