Housing prices in San Francisco are notoriously high, so twenty-five-year-old illustrator Peter Berkowitz thought inside the box to come up with a clever solution. He designed a 8 by 3.5 by 4.5 foot wooden living space. With the help of friends who are a designer and woodworker, Berkowitz fashioned the box, which he calls a pod. The pod sits in the living room of a friend’s apartment, and Berkowitz pays $400 a month for the space. The other residents of the apartment pay around $1000...

Housing prices in San Francisco are notoriously high, so 25-year-old illustrator Peter Berkowitz designed a box to live in. Measuring just 8 x 3.5 x 4.5 feet, the tiny box takes up the smallest amount of space in his friend’s apartment, and he gets away with paying a fraction of what most renters spend.
