BUILD Status Report

BUILD shares their last status report of 2014.
It’s been another whirlwind year here at BUILD World Headquarters; hard to believe 2015 is literally just moments away. We remain thankful to each of our clients, contractors, vendors and friends who trust and support our firm. And, given that we’re at year end, it seems like an appropriate time for a 2014 rundown of projects and events.
The early design phase of the Grand Ridge Drive Residence is complete. The project sits on a heavily wooded parcel in the Issaquah Highlands that comes complete with bears, birds, and forest critters.
With some utility challenges sorted out, the Home in the Woods is headed straight to permit. Nestled within the trees, the home balances indoor-outdoor living while perched atop a steep forest slope.
The Pham Residence in Bellevue is full steam ahead. With a careful dovetailing between plan and envelope achieved, we’re in pre-permit coordination with the building department. The project will be a nice example of some innovative siding techniques here at BUILD.
We’ve also been working on a handful of larger commercial projects lately. For now, these are still under the radar, but stay tuned for some future blog posts highlighting the diagrams and mapping involved in our design process.
The Mercer Island Residence was submitted for permit this fall. Stay tuned as we start up construction in early 2015 …
After a lengthy permitting process, the House + Guesthouse in Magnolia finally broke ground earlier this month. Demolition of the existing structure is complete, with site preparation currently underway.
The BUILD Case Study House 2014 has made some big progress in the past few months. With the framing done and the house wrapped, the window installation is in process. Not to mention, we installed our first green roof in response to the new Seattle drainage requirements. Check out our post on some of the early progress on the project.
We’ve received the certificate of occupancy on the Lake Washington Residence, the owners are happy to be moving in, and we’re down to a few punchlist items. Stay tuned for the final photos.
We’ve alluded to our highly productive in-house model making factory over the summer — a big thanks to Carey and Cale for the hard work. The completed models and the method behind the craft was highlighted in a blog post last month.
And onto the next…!
Our photos from The High Line before The High Line will be included in an exhibit at the Hamburg Museum in Germany this January. The show features future development of parks and green areas in the city.
The start of December marked Gray Magazine’s anniversary. Their annual holiday party is always a great event, in a beautiful space, complete with a modern wreath display and raffle. Thanks to Gray and Roche Bobois.

Another fantastic launch party marked Issue 32.3 of ARCADE Magazine. The winter event and silent auction was held at The Studios, a new performing arts center in Seattle. Thanks to ARCADE and The Studios.
