New Park, Pennsylvania-based Woolen Mill Fan Company makes reproduction ceiling fans based on historic belt-and-pulley and direct-drive fan patterns inspired by a 1976 Smithsonian exhibition. Each design is available in iron, aluminum, or bronze, and can run on a belt and pulley system or a modern motor. "We are sensitive to the entire fabrication process," according to founder Jay McGinnis. "We carve our designs in a small pattern-making shop and assemble them by hand in our studio. Nowhere is there a hint of mass production; even in the shipping crates." Go to the Woolen Mill Fan Company for more information.
