To be filed under "Only in LA": Hollywood hair salon as art gallery, in the form of the recently opened Benjamin Galvin Salon on Melrose. Owners James Galvin and Benjamin Mohapi are veterans of the UK hair styling scene who grew weary of gray skies and decamped to Los Angeles. Their 2,300-square-foot salon, designed by Venice-based Marshall & Agriam , has a gentleman's club vibe, with Chesterfield sofas and walls painted in moody shades from Farrow & Ball. During styling sessions, clients can contemplate a rotating collection of art (everything is for sale) curated by LA consultant Sonja Teri and featuring original works by street artists like Shepard Fairey, Swoon, Anthony Lister, Skullphone, Curtis Kulig, and more. Go to Benjamin Galvin Salon for more information. Above: The salon's entrance on leafy Melrose Avenue.
