Urban Camper Lighting is the most recent work of  chieh-ting huang shown at the london design week 2011. These amazing and unique objects draw on the symbolism associated with lanterns which are commonly known  in the eastern culture as a lightweight portable lighting devices made of wood and paper. Elaborate wooden cages protects  delicate paper shades featuring  diamond shapes reminiscent of the preciousness of lighting, too easily forgotten by the modern world.

Early in human prehistory, our ancestors’ ability to control fire led to the technological advances which brought us directly to where we stand today. In the era of ever-changing technology, with our constant cycle of invention and obsolescence, it is hard to imagine a time when technological advancement moved at a slower pace and generation after generation read and gossiped, darned and contemplated by the soft, gently flickering light of a lantern.
