A unique house design was made by KWK Promes, called Safe House. This house looks like a fortress with special patented system to protect the privacy of the occupants. The system also can provide additional sustainable features, providing the efficient use of energy for the house. This unique house is located in Warsaw, Poland, offering new concept of privacy cover.
The basic idea of making this sustainable house was taken from the client’s need of having a house with highest security. The house has a cuboid form, with several parts of the exterior walls can be moved/slided, creating openings. If privacy is needed, the parts will be closed completely.
The sliding parts are not dependent on the building form. They create new way of providing maximum protection for the house. When they are closed, the safe zone will be limited (ex : at night), and when they are opened, they provide more spaces and accesses for outdoor activities. These unique system is patented, and can be applied for other building designs.
To realize the idea, technology is applied, especially on creating the sliding walls (both 2,2 m high, 22 and 15 m long). The walls (eastern and western) will create a courtyard when they are opened towards the fence. This can be a solution on having a children playing space, with optimal security control. Others are large shutters (all 2,8 m high, with a width ranging up to 3,5 m, opening up to 180 degrees) and a drawbridge leading to the roof terrace above the swimming pool. All of the movable elements are claimed safe to be operated with electric engines.
The building utilize several unique materials, such as white anodized aluminum as roll-down gate at southern elevation, which can be used as a movie projection screen. The whole building is a concrete monolith. The mobile parts are from light steel trusses filled with mineral wool. The exterior walls are clad with cement-bonded particleboards, finished with dark wood stain.
What make the house has good sustainability is that the system provide perfect insulation when the house is closed. Natural lighting and heating from sunlight become very important and supported in this green construction. The glasses behind the movable house will provide maximal access for sunlight when the walls are opened. When winter, this will provide good heating effect, and preventing the sun’s heat for going inside when summer. While the house is closed, the walls will act as a perfect insulator and also gain the energy as they have dark color, which is easy to absorb heat. This system will support the original heating system which are relied on some environmentally friendly products, such as heat pump and solar systems supported with gas heating, that utilize renewable energy. The sustainable house design is also completed with mechanical ventilation and heat recovery system, creating natural ventilation system.
This house creates a new way on creating a safe, comfortable house by its unique system. The system can also creates a green house design. With this green construction, the house acts like a plant, wakes every morning and closed after the dusk.
