Picture 1Dave Erickson sends word that a John Randal McDonald-designed house just outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan is on the market. The circumstances around the design and construction are interesting, in that the original owner purchased drawings after seeing a featured house design posted in the Summer-Fall 1955 issue of Small Homes Guide (design #1632). The house was constructed with pains-taking care to follow the purchased drawing set and is most characteristically McDonald-like. Dave goes on to say that the house was built with Redwood, Mahogany and Fond du Lac limestone in 1957 and the original owner was a steam engine expert who added a train trestle he built himself to the 20 acres parcel. See the listing here.
