HANDS-ON SUNDAY: DECORATIVE PLATES ON WALLS

The practice of displaying decorative plates on the walls dates back to ancient times. Although we hardly see this being done a lot in this part of the world, this décor idea is hardly dying (judging by the many creative examples online). It is truly a wonderful idea to enliven the walls other than hanging paintings.
The key to getting the entire display right is to carefully plan how the plates will be arranged. Logically, one would start by planning and arranging the various plates on the floor first, getting an idea how these would translate onto the walls. Alternatively, grab some leftover newspaper and trace each plate or framed piece onto the paper and cut them out. Tape the paper cut-outs onto the wall to have a feel of how they will eventually turn out.Experiment with your grouping on the floor to work out the arrangement you like best. Things get interesting when you mix plates of different size and varying patterns in the grouping. The result can be really striking if you match modern plates with vintage looking ones.(Images courtesy of The Design Chaser and Décor Pad)Stan
