This UK company Verbus Systems builds and sells containers purposed for constructing buildings. That’s not unique, but here is their twist: They are fabricating 12ft wide boxes. Thats 4ft wider than the ISO standard sizes that are typically used for cargo shipping, and repurposed for construction. The fallout from that is the opportunity for 11ft wide + interior spaces. One of the big struggles with standard container sizes is that the interior spaces are tight for all but the most utilitarian uses. Sure, you can squeeze bedrooms and kitchens in them and they can work quite well. But its not tremendously flexible, and the only alternative is to scale up the scope of modifications by making larger openings to combine the space of two boxes. In this context the 12ft wide boxes are of great benefit. They allow many more possible floor plan layouts and make creating buildings in this manner much more feasible.
