Located in the bustling metropolis of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Estudio Manus is a collaborative shop offering everything from furniture to interiors—architecture, events, even sets. No wonder then, that their original lamps have a flare for the dramatic. Founded in 1999 by husband and wife Daniela Scorza and Caio de Medeiros, Estudio Manus takes old items and repurposes them for the modern world. Combining elements that are curious and surprising, their work is rich in color and texture. And yet they are minimal in design. Frequently there is a sense of humor and whimsy to their illuminations, but also a graceful balance. Their is a sense of history and depth, and yet they are utterly contemporary. Such contradictions lend a certainly vitality to Estudio Manus' lamps , a personality. Above: A lustrous gold pendant with a red cord is one of Estudio Manus' latest illuminations ; $350 and $900. Above: A simple antique pendant bulb looks stunning hanging over Estudio Manus' brass hook. Above: Wrapped in silk and a rough, old balnket respectively, the theatrical "Bourgeois" and a "Beggar" lamps are positively Shakespearian. Next to these sits "Cone Lamp" a reproduction 1920's brass lamp with a hand shaped parchment shade. Above: Modest and lovely, this lamp is wrapped in a mere shred of antique cloth, secured with a simple clothes pin. Above: A quieter character, this felt and wood pendant looks calm and serene.
