We've been keeping our eye on Brooklyn-based online store Kaufmann Mercantile ever since it launched over three years ago. Founded by Sebastian Kaufmann, a German expat "with a great appreciation for design, art, cooking, science, and the outdoors," the store's rigorous pursuit of well-made, hand-picked products with an emphasis on quality makes it a great resource.  Their in-depth product descriptions means buyers know the full provenance of a product and the work that has gone into its production. Case in point, these American-made Copper & Brass Handheld Lantern ; $24.90 each from Kaufmann Mercantile. Above: The handheld lanterns are forged by an American muzzleloader parts maker and have a high back to protect the flame. Above: Fold-away handles provide easy handling and make for easy storage. Above: Check out Kaufmann's tips on caring for copper —(hint: ketchup and salt are involved). If you have yet to notice, we have an ongoing obsession with brass goods.
