If you're going to get experimental with design and color, the bathroom, a small area hidden away in most floor plans, is a safe place to start. Take the bath at the Durslade Farmhouse in Somerset , for example, where owners and art dealers Iwan Wirth and Manuela Hauser created an eclectic color palette with framed butterfly specimens and retro fixtures. The bath is really a custom look—an art piece on its own—but here we've pieced out some key elements to replicate the look at home, if you dare. Above: A narrow bathroom comes to life with color-blocking in several unexpected shades. Above: A retro seafoam-green tub is set against a backdrop of high-gloss black tile and contrasting white grout. Materials Above: Benjamin Moore's Washington Blue  paint is a true blue color, a lighter navy with a faint tint of purple; $69.99 for a gallon of Aura paint. Above: The inside of wall-mounted shelves are painted a color similar to Benjamin Moore's Labrador Blue ; $37.99 for a gallon of Ben Interior Paint. Above: Floors and shadowed corners are painting in an almost black color. Our best match is Farrow & Ball's dark charcoal  Railings  paint; $97 a gallon. Above: The main walls of the bathroom are painted in an almond off-white color with a pinkish hue. A close match is Farrow & Ball's Dimity , a red-based color with a good amount of warmth; $97 a gallon. Above:  Merola Square Tiles  with a black glossy glaze are 3.75 inches square and are 89 cents each at Home Depot. Bath Fixtures & Lighting Above: Source a Retro Toilet in seafoam green, pale pink, or a number of 1960s-era shades on eBay . For replacing any missing parts or upgrading a current retro toilet, This Old Toilet has seats, tanks, bowls, and touch-up paint. Above: Comfort Seats'  Molded Wood Toilet Seat  in black has chrome hinges for $37.46 at Amazon. Alternatively the  Kohler Black Brevia Toilet Seat  is $29.85 at Faucet Direct. Above: A pale spruce green Vintage 1963 Bathtub, Toilet, and Sink come as a set for $1,500 from a listing on eBay. Above: Waterworks'  Universal 110 Metal Towel Warmer  is $1,714 in chrome. For more options and ideas, see our post  Remodeling 101: Towel Warmers . Above: From Waterworks, the  Aero 6.5-Inch Brass Towel Ring  is $245 for the chrome finish. Above: A pair of  Rivet Lampshades  in black from Japanese designer Shigeki Fujishiro hang in the bathroom. The lampshades are currently only available directly from Fujishiro in Japan for ¥8,424 ($68). For more, see our post Shigeki Fujishiro's  Future Basics . Accessories Above: A large framed montage of butterfly specimens is mounted on the bathroom wall. For something similar, visit Paxton Gate in San Francisco. Above: Paxton Gate's single Common Tiger Butterfly is set into a five-by-five-inch black frame; $27. Above: Source a quirky, wall-mounted soap dish and other vintage bathroom accessories on Etsy . Shown here is a set of Yellow Porcelain Bath Fixtures for $65 from seller Bee Haven Home on Etsy. Above:  Musgo Real Portuguese Bar Soap  is $7.95 per bar from the Men's Room.
