Walter House in B and W The non-profit Friends of Cedar Rock invites you to the 7th annual Afternoon with Wright symposium Saturday October 29, 2011 at the American Legion Hall in Quasqueton. We are pleased to announce two very interesting speakers: Thomas Wright and Daniel Strong. Get more details after the jump...

As stated in the press release:

Thomas Wright LEED AP & Associate AIA, is a trustee of the FLlW Foundation, and President of the Taliesin Fellows, Inc. Mr. Wright’s (no relation to FLlW) presentation, “The Legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright: the integration and accomplishments of apprentices.” It should flow well with a brief overview of Wright leading up to the founding of his school - the Taliesin Fellowship, the integration of his apprentices into his super-productive later years, and then a look at what those apprentices and subsequent students have done since Wright’s death in 1959.  Be it through thoughtful restoration of projects that they originally drew for Wright many years before, or fresh new designs based upon his principles.

Daniel Strong is the Associate Director and Curator of Exhibitions at Grinnell College's Faulconer Gallery. His presentation is titled “An Historic House in College Hands: the Benjamin J. and Mabel T. Ricker House.” Mr. Strong states, “Griffin considered Ricker House to be among the most representative of his architectural achievements.”

The event is Saturday October 29, 2011 and starts at 1:00 p.m. There will be an admission charge of $10 asked at the door to help offset event expenses. During a brief intermission, there will be light refreshments available and a small door prize drawing. At the conclusion of the event, the FOCR will play the Ida Trier interview that, due to technical difficulties, was unable to be viewed at last year’s event.

Guests are invited to participate in a Walter House Tour at Cedar Rock at 11:00a.m. For those who do not plan to stay after for the Trier video, there is also the additional option of a 4:30p.m. tour of Cedar Rock.

The Afternoon with Wright event will be held at the American Legion hall downtown Quasqueton, Iowa.  The hall is located on Highway W-45/Water Street. The FOCR does not have a website yet - to reserve your seats; or, if you have a question regarding the event you need answered, please e-mail the park at cedar_rock@dnr.iowa.gov or telephone the park at (319) 934-3572.
