This lovely literary hybrid—cookbook, memoir, and celebration of Cypriot crafts and culture—completely captures what author Helen Tsanos Sheinman is all about. Helen was raised in London and has lived in Manhattan for the past 30 years, and making food for family and friends has always been at the center of her universe. Whenever I think of Helen (I'm a lucky friend who has spent many an hour at her table), I slip into a stream of consciousness that goes like this: basil, warmth, Avgolemono soup, white-painted chairs, Halloumi cheese, serenity, lentils, bright blue sea, rosemary. Helen's home on the island of Serifos is a stylish and unpretentious combination of comfort and local craftsmanship. To that end, she and her cousin Christina Tsanos started Agapi to promote Cypriot crafts, from delicate silver spoons to woven baskets and textiles. Agapi's line of colorful, hand-painted ceramic plates is available through Anthropologie . Love, Laughter and Lunch is $30.49 from Amazon.
