Erupting volcanoes could have precipitated unrest in ancient Egypt, according to a new study. An international team of researchers led by Joseph Manning of Yale University discovered volcanic eruptions in northern latitudes could impact the flow of the Nile River. Ancient peoples depended on Nile River flooding to irrigate crops, and if that flood didn't happen, there could have been political or economic consequences.
