On the 28th of June 2011 that Max Lamb produced his largest pewter cast to date, a desk. On a beach in Cornwall together with four assistants and ten students from Falmouth University’s 3-D department, the designer realized the carefully planned project.
At 4:30 Lamb started carving a mould into the sand, using only a kitchen knife and a metal rod. Six hours later the mould was ready for casting. After melting 180 kg of pewter in 30 camping stoves 5 assistants helped Lamb pour the Pewter into the sand mould. Only an hour later Lamb was able to dig out his finished desk. Once more, Lamb has shown an example of simplicity and brilliance brought together in his craft.
