The day that ceramicist Helena Seget’s pet rat skittered across a work in progress was a fortuitous one. Fascinated by the organic design created from the accidental pattern of the scurrying paw prints, Seget realized that she had an indelible memory of her beloved pet. After she installed the tiles in her bathroom, she strangely never felt alone in that room again; to be forever inhabited by her rat’s “genius." N.B. Helena Seget's "genius" was spotted at Tent London during London Design Week. Above: With her paw prints permanently inscribed in Seget's home, the pet rat becomes part of the memory of the house. Above: The prints have an abstract and delicate quality. Above: Custom paw print tiles are available through Helena Seget, who is based in Newcastle, UK; £16 each. N.B. Be sure to read Amy Wilentz's Willard Diaries, chronicling her spooky run-ins with rats.
