Effizienshaus Plus is a sustainable architecture building house designed by a team lead by Professor Werner Sorbek. This house is claimed can produce energy twice more than its consumption. With the commissioning of Germany’s Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development, this green architecture house becomes one of  energy efficient houses in Germany.

This 130 sq m environmental green building was built in December 2011 as an experiment building. It is completed with sustainable energy source of solar panels and massive insulation to provide high sustainability. The energy from solar panels at the roof and side of the house are stored in a 40 kWh storage battery. By this system, it can be also used to charge the occupants’ electric vehicle. Beside to produce electricity, the solar panels also heat the water that will heat the house through the floor.  The solar panels can produce 16,000 kWh / year of energy and the house only consumes 4,000 – 5,000 kWh / year. There is also an air heat exchanger to heat the input air by the output warm air.

The experiment is done to observe how efficient housing can get. All of parameters are controlled automatically. A lot of sensors are used to provide high energy efficiency, such as to detect if there are humans inside the house or not, etc. This sustainable home will be a solution for a green architecture building in the future.
