Futuristic metro station puts a novel spin on the everyday commute in Taipei

The design concept for the Dingpu MRT station stems from Tucheng District’s transition from an early industrial coal town into a major technological center. The curved lines found throughout the station are arced to look like the letter ‘C’ in reference to carbon, which according to the architects “implies the revolutionary progress from coal mines to high-tech carbon nanotubes.” The curved lines extend from interior—visible on the floors and ceiling—to the aboveground steel spiral...
