LiveModern is building the online communities of interest for accessible modernist housing. We are a rapidly growing resource for people looking for modernist housing products, and for companies looking for new customers interested in their products and services. As the market for modernist housing grows, LiveModern will be a key intersection in the emerging modernist community.

While we are building the community, we need your support to help it grow. As you make your plans to build, remodel, furnish your own modern home, please pledge to help the LiveModern community grow by making a contribution today.

Our members told us what you wanted LiveModern to focus on in 2004 to develop the community. We made significant progress in all of these areas since then:

• We've enabled our users to publish their own blogs—or web journal—detailing progress on their modernist home project. These have been very popular, demystifying the process for others that will build soon.
• Even though Dwell does not contribute financially to LiveModern (they send us lots of visitors, which is a fair trade), we are now hosting the Dwell forums, the interactive meeting place to find answers to your modern home questions. With your support, we'll upgrade the forum software this year;
• We've conducted several polls of our members and visitors, on questions of interest to the reemerging modernist movement; and
• We've recruited lots and lots of new members. There were about 500 members at the beginning of 2004 and there are almost 15,000 members two years later. We're not slowing down!
  

In order to sustain our growth, and introduce more features, LiveModern will need additional funds beyond what is provided by Google advertising. We will need the support of our members to help sustain the LiveModern community.

We are co-located on an unlimited bandwidth network, are backed up every night, and are offline only about an hour each month (for system maintenance and upgrades). As we grow, we will need to upgrade our to handle many more members and visitors, be online all the time, and build redundency into the system.

Our operating costs are only about $1,000/month (for co-location services, including system administration). To upgrade our system this year, enabling many thousands of new members constant access to LiveModern, will require another $8,000 by the end of the year (our servers are groaning!). These are hard costs, and do not include the costs for content creation or programming to add new features to LiveModern.

We are asking you to make a voluntary contribution* of $35, $50, $100—or more—to help sustain and grow LiveModern. Your voluntary contribution to LiveModern will be earmarked toward the operating and upgrade costs of the community website. If only 1% of our members make a voluntary contribution this year, we'll be able to meet most of our operating and upgrade costs for the entire year. Any funds contributed in excess of the operating and upgrade budget will be earmarked for content and programming.
