I was in the light store a couple weeks ago and asked one of the salefolks about the coming death of incandescents, and he said that the death had been long rumored but would not happen. In yesterday's paper is an article about, you guessed it: the coming death of incandescent bulbs. In 2007 Congress passed the Energy Independence and Security Act that sets efficiency targets in light bulbs, efficiency targets that incandescents can't meet.

Essentially, 100 watt incandescent bulbs can't be manufactured and/or imported since January 1, 2012 (last year!), but existing inventory can still be sold. The limitations will be extended on January 7th of this year to 75 watt incandescents and further extended to 60 and 40 watters at the very end (December 31st) of this year.

I think the only incandescents in the house are the nine 60 watt candelabras on the chandelier, and I think they really need to stay incandescent (sorry Mother Earth...).

Looks like we're gonna need to horde a few...
