I feel sorta weird about having posted a political item, even if it was limited in commentary and based on humor. So getting back to my usual frame, I wanted to help propigate Tim Kessler's story by posting this news item on his Coastal Awareness campaign. Like me, Tim's a paddleboarder and surfer. Unlike me, he's mounting a monumental, 1100 mile paddle spanning the length of the California coast to bring awareness to water quality and other issues affecting the nearshore marine environment. And they're trying to film a documentary of the whole deal.

I am fascinated by acheivement in endurance sport, especially in swimming and paddleboarding. I've posted on Kevin Eslinger and his unbelievable paddle from the Channel Islands to San Diego. I've posted about Jamie Mitchell's domination of the Molokai Channel race for each of the past several summers. And although there have been a number of really fine long distance paddleboarding accomplishments (see, Larry Capune, Eslinger, and Susan Chaplin) I think Kessler's voyage is right up there!

While I am giving props, I found out about this deal through the Mike Eaton web page grapevine, and then through the Acme Instant Boulder Kit blog, which is a fine one amongst the surf-blog rabble! From AIBK, which I liked enough to link on the right of this page, I found Kessler's own blog. Now, I am building a house and trying to keep joven tres_aboles in Montessori school, so the familia tres_arboles is living frugally these days. But I did not hesitate to contribute a few bucks to Kessler's endeavor, and I hope you will too.
