Democracy grows weak when the electorate (you know...the voters) is kept unaware of the substantive policy choices available in an election. The parties know this, but none benefits more than the Republican party because their policies are designed to benefit an elite few at the expense of the commons. But they also know they need regular folks to vote against their own interest to get elected.

As a result, they have very successfully perpetrated an utterly ironic narrative characterizing Democrats as elitist when Democratic policies have always favored the many. This type of distracting hypocrisy is presently on full display with the choice of an utter lightweight as McCain's running mate. The corporate media, ever wanting to disown the bizarre "liberal media" label first foisted on an uncritical public during the Reagan administration, have run with the narrative, leaving aside the fact that this ticket is not fit to lead.

Unfortunately, the job of sorting through the bullshit is left not to serious journalists, but to a comedian. Thankfully, that comedian's show is popular enough that he can afford to have staff sort through the record and expose the hypocrisy.

To me this is proof that Republican strategists and talkers think you are stupid. Well, are you? Thanks John Stewart.

Hat tip to Born to Lose.
