Even if you don't have a shed you can still be a winner during National Shed Week. The fine chaps at Bovey Tracey-based The Cheese Shed are offering the lucky winner of a special NSW competition a big 1.5kg of delicous cheese including Yarg, Cornish Blue, Nanterrow, Menallack (pictured above) and Keltic Gold. More details over at readersheds.co.uk (which is now having a nice rest and some cheese following today's exertions).

Runners-up in Shed of the Year 2008

As we mentioned earlier, the voting for Shed of the Year was extremely close indeed. Second place went to Simon's pallet shed which we've raved about elsewhere on Shedworking (pictured above) and which attracted the attention of Treehugger's judge Lloyd Alter . In third place was the gorgeous Gar-Den . And Green Gables came a very creditable fourth. Read more about Green Gables at Verity's blog here but here's a snippet of what she says about it: "GG is my beloved writing shed, where masterpieces will hopefully be written. Hidden away at the bottom of my parents' orchard, it provides the perfect escape; a haven of solitude. I've been working away in GG since I was 15 [I'm now 26] when I reclaimed it from cobwebs and lawn- mowers. I named it Green Gables after Anne, my favourite childhood book! Structurally GG is your typical, ancient garden-shed complete with horseshoe. My parents' had it at their first house 30years ago. When I began converting it into my writing den, I painted the outside, got my father to help with the floor ... and began designing the interior. I have a desk, a mini- chest-of- drawers, a stool [for guests], plenty of shelves for my books, a radio, lots of candles ... and Virginia Woolf to inspire me! I like the clean, cream look of the inside, and it is the perfect spot for me to write. I look out across the orchard, and my pet labrador sometimes sits at my feet as I type! I am always eager to get "home" to Green Gables ..."

Ever since my wife and I got married, we have never really had a proper dining room table. Unfortunately with our new house, we still don’t really have a great spot for a decent sized table. We could however probably find a place for this nice little four seater from West Elm. [...]
